Ge|ra|ni|ol [nlat. Geranium = Storchschnabel (Bot.); ↑ -ol], das; -s; Syn.: (E)- oder trans-3,7-Dimethylocta-2,6-dien-1-ol: farbloser, fl., nach Rosen duftender Terpenalkohol, der ebenso wie seine Ester (↑ Geranyl-) parfümistisch verwendet wird. Vgl. Nerol.

Geraniol
 
[Kurzwort aus Geranium und Alkohol] das, -s, zweifach ungesättigter Terpenalkohol, farblose, flüssige Substanz mit angenehm rosenartigem Geruch. Geraniol kommt frei oder mit organischen Säuren verestert in vielen ätherischen Ölen vor, z. B. im Palmarosa- und im Zitronellöl; es wird u. a. zur Herstellung synthetischer Rosenöle verwendet.
